Design & Classic Sale returns in May with a beautiful selection of objects from classical 19th century Antiquity’s to more modern mid 20th century design classics!
The list of our long-awaited auction includes gems of Finnish design, such as Alvar and Aino Aalto‘s furniture and Arabia‘s ceramics. In addition, the auction will feature a selection of works of art, furniture, ceramics and much more from the 19th and 20th centuries. One of the absolute highlights of the auction is a painting by the Finnish artist Reidar Särestöniemi.
The Design & Classic Sale Helander will be held online starting from the 19th of May and ending on the 26th of May 2023. Bids can be submitted via the catalog. Please note that submitting Bids requires a registration and login. You may read more about how to register, here.
Design & Classic Sale Helander’s Viewing is open on weekdays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hernepellonkuja 8–10 (Helander’s main building), 00560 Helsinki, Finland.
Please note that a Buyer’s Premium and a Hammer Fee will be added on top of the Hammer Price visible in the Catalogue. To view the Current Fees, please scroll down. There might also be some additional costs of Droit de suite added to the Lot’s hammer price. These Lots have been marked with a star *-symbol.

The right to a royalty fee includes artwork that is protected by copyright. In Finland all copyright-eligible works are protected for 70 years after the death of the author / artist. The Ministry of Education and Culture has appointed Kuvasto as the organization for settling the royalty fee. Helander therefore collects payments from buyers in connection with the sale of the work, passes them on to the Catalog, which in turn pays the compensation to the party entitled to the compensation: the visual artist or the right holder.
Payment
You should pay your purchases within five (5) days after the auction has ended. You can pay for your purchases either at the Auction House or through the My Pages service.
At the Chamber, payment methods are bank and credit cards or bank transfer. Please note, that we do not accept cash or charge debit cards remotely.
From My Pages, you’ll see an invoice for your purchases after the auction. You can pay for your purchases via the service with a card or through your own online bank.
Collecting & Shipping
Items must be picked up / shipping ordered and paid within five (5) days of the auction.
When considering packaging or mailing, contact us. We will professionally pack (and if necessary disassemble) items for mailing or transport. Request a quote here
Condition Grading
At Helander online auctions, we apply condition grading, the purpose of which is to make it easier for prospective buyers to gain information on the condition of the lots, along with images, descriptions and possibly seeing the lots for themselves at a pre-auction viewing.
