The World Ski Championships in 1982 are remembered not least for their exceptional weather conditions. A thick fog surrounded the Holmenkollen Ski Jumping Hill in Oslo as the competitors prepared for their performance. Fearlessly, without sight of the ground, the 18-year-old Matti Nykänen jumped and emerged from the fog, landing at the first spot in the competition.
The large hill gold medal in 1982 marked the beginning of a triumphant career. Nykänen was awarded 5 Olympic medals, 14 World Championships medals and 22 Finnish Championships medals during his career, making him one of the greatest ski jumpers in the world.
Auction House Helander presents the ski jump competition vest that Nykänen wore in the 1982 World Ski Championship while winning his first large hill gold medal. The vest is auctioned as a part of Design & Classic Sale Helander which is held online April 21–28.
Starting price: 500 EUR.
